How we built a Messenger and comment auto-reply for a Dhaka salon, with a human handoff
An n8n workflow can answer common salon questions on Facebook and Instagram within the same conversation, using the salon's own price menu. The parts that matter most are not the AI reply: they are the filters before it, the duplicate checks, the choice between a public and a private reply, and a clear handoff to a person.
The problem it solves
A salon's Facebook page and Instagram account get the same questions again and again: how much is a facial, are you open today, do you do bridal makeup. Owners answer late at night, or not at all, and a customer who waits too long books somewhere else.
We built this workflow for Noor Beauty Salon on Bailey Road, Dhaka. Noor is the founder's own salon, so this is a demonstration of the work, not a client result. You can see the full workflow on our work page.
What the workflow does, step by step
Each message or comment arrives at an n8n Webhook node, sent by Meta's webhooks for pages. From there it goes through these stages:
- Filter first. A spam guard and a country filter drop junk before anything else runs. The salon serves customers in Dhaka, so messages from countries it does not serve are not answered automatically.
- Sort the event. A message in the inbox and a comment under a post are handled differently, so the workflow routes them to two branches.
- Skip what should be skipped. It ignores the page's own comments, and it checks whether a message or comment was already processed. Meta can send the same event more than once, so without this step a customer could get two replies.
- Understand the question. If the customer sent a photo, an AI step describes it first. The question is then matched against the salon's price menu, so the answer uses the salon's real services and prices instead of guessing.
- Write a short reply. An AI step writes the answer, and a cleaning step removes anything that should not be sent, such as extra formatting.
- Choose public or private. Under a public comment, the workflow can reply publicly, privately, or both. Prices and personal details are better sent in private. Meta supports this with private replies to comments.
- Hand over to a person. Some messages need a human: a complaint, a special request, or a question the menu cannot answer. The workflow marks that conversation for handoff, stops replying to it, and sends a notice so a staff member takes over.
- Keep a record. Every conversation and every reply is saved. That is how the duplicate check works, and it lets the owner see exactly what was said.
- Delete on request. If a customer asks for their chat to be deleted, the workflow removes the saved conversation and confirms it.
What we would tell another business owner
- The filters matter more than the AI. Most of the workflow is checks: is this spam, is it new, is it ours, does it need a person. The AI reply is one step near the end.
- Answer from your own price list. A reply that quotes the wrong price does more harm than no reply. Matching the question to the real menu keeps answers honest.
- Make the handoff obvious. Customers should never feel trapped with a bot. When a person should answer, the workflow steps back and tells staff.
- Log everything. Without a record you cannot check what was said, and you cannot stop double replies.
What it takes to run one
You need a Facebook page (and an Instagram professional account if you want Instagram too), an n8n instance, an AI account for the reply and image steps, and a place to store conversations. Each client of ResultGrid Digital gets a separate n8n set up for their business; nothing is shared between clients.
Tool subscriptions and AI usage are paid by the business and are not part of our fee. A full inbox and comment helper like this is larger than a single simple workflow. The free audit tells you which plan fits; see the automation service page and pricing for typical costs.
